Shipping a classic car and worried about road debris. Is an enclosed trailer really 50% more expensive than an open one? I want to protect the paint without getting ripped off on the rate.

For a classic car, enclosed transport is the only way to go. I’ve seen open trailers leave cars covered in road salt and oil film after just a few hundred miles, which can ruin a vintage finish. While it is usually 30-50% more expensive, you're paying for specialized lift-gate loading and higher insurance coverage. If you're trying to figure out the best way to tow your car across states without overpaying, I’d recommend comparing rates from carriers who specialize in high-value hauls. It’s better to pay a bit more now than to deal with a $5,000 paint correction later. Just make sure the carrier has "gap" insurance for any potential debris damage.
