I met Terry on audio forum a year ago, and became good friends hereafter. We often discuss HIFI through emails, and have shared many HIFI ideas and experiences.
Terry plays HIFI for nearly 20 years. Not only he has a great taste for the ultra high end audio, but he also has extensive knowledge in hi-end audio. Some of the audio components of his choice were not popular when he made the purchase, but soon received raving reviews from professional audio reviewers around the world.
Soulution is a Swiss company Terry discovered. It was not very well know in North America as to date, and before you know it, they are REALLY expensive. ($36,000 EURO) Most of the audiophiles would not dare to give it a try, yet, Terry brought them home a while ago.
The look of Soulution is a classic Swiss design – plain and simply, yet with the highest quality finish. There are no screws (how did they put it together?) Soulution is also very sensitive to cables. Terry told me, it does not necessary have to go with expensive cables, but most important, the right cable with the right synergy. How does it sound? It's really one of its kinds. It presents a full scale, top to bottom sound stage with a real harmonic balance; fast, dynamic,
bright yet very subtle. It makes music flow very “easy”, and “happy”. It is really a good representation of the Swiss made ultra high end gear. In my opinion, it is nothing less than Goldmund, and perhaps FM Acoustics.
The Swiss made Soulution does a very good job on its power supply, and it is not easy to squeeze more out of them with different power treatments. Terry finally settled with a Purepower APS 1050 . “The sound tends to be very clean with quiet background. Everything I hear is still the same, but with enhanced details and micro dynamics. I'm very glad to hear the improvement brought by this little baby – APS 1050”, says Terry.
Terry highly recommends Brinkmann. He has used all of Brinkmann products including phono amp, cartridge, tonearm, TT, flagship preamp, and mono power amplifiers. Brinkmann has always been well known for its turntable, but Terry likes Brinkmann preamp and mono amplifier even more than its turntable. “ Brinkmann preamp and power amp are user friendly with flexible gain design” says Terry.
Terry also highly recommends Finite Elemente Hifi rack from Germany. “It's very expensive, but you can never believe the sonic improvement brought by this Ikea looking Hifi rack !” says Terry. Terry never regrets spending big dollars on this rack, as he says, the improvement is bigger than upgrading his power amp and pre amp.
Some of my friends are called “Wine Spectators”. They like wine and enjoy good food. They go around the world, just to explore and taste good food / wines. If there is a so-called “Audio Spectator”, Terry definitely would have my vote.
Terry appreciates the most truthful music reproduction and the finest audio design. He ha s no restriction to brand name, or price range ; every audio component is a new learning experience for him. Terry is not only an enviable audiophile, but also a great friend to talk to, and learn from |
