Tony is one of the most well known audiophiles in Vancouver. He is well known not only for the best sounding system in town, but also for his devotion in hifi and his generosity.
An audiophile journey is never easy. Good thing about Tony is that he’s very open minded and never afraid to try. Tony has gone through many components, cables and tweaks, including a new home in the last decade in pursuit of his ideal system. In 2012, Tony settled with the combo of Burmester and Dynaudio. The synergy between them is incredibly good. Even I (non-Dynaudio dealer) am convinced that Burmester and Dynaudio is a great match. Quickly, Tony also discovered that Nordost cables match extremely well with Burmester. While most audiophile would be extremely happy with such a system, Tony always likes to experiment and look for possibly improvements. The latest invention of his was to use dual Entreq Silver Tellus ground conditioner, and all wired by Nordost Valhalla cables. Yes, it is right – Nordost Valhalla power cords. While most audiophiles dream about the Valhalla power cord, Tony is the first person in the world to use them as ground cables. If that doesn’t sound crazy enough, how about having these ground cables terminated with WBT silver spade connectors and link both Silver Tellus ground conditioners together also with Valhalla cables. As crazy as it may sound, it yields an incredible improvement to the system. Many who have visited Tony’s home will agree, his system has an extremely clean and deep soundstage with incredible micro dynamics. A few months ago, Tony became the first owner of Nordost V2 speaker cable and interconnect in Canada.
Tony is the best audio friend that one would wish to have. Although he is extremely busy at work every day, but he always welcomes his friends to visit even late at night. In many occasions, he would lend his audio components to friends without hesitation. How many audio friends would lend out a $30,000 amplifier, a $9,000 power conditioner, or cables worth thousands of dollars to friends just to try for fun? Tony would. Although I sometimes suggest Tony not to, but he tells me that these are just toys. He is happy to share them with his friends.
With his generosity and true passion for audio, he is surrounded by many good friends who share the same passion with him. We all voted his system as one of the best sounding systems in Vancouver. Of course, knowing Tony, he’s never satisfied. By the time this review is published, Tony has already upgraded to the Burmester Flagship 111 Music Center. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.
