The PranaFidelity speakers is a pleasant surprise at the show. I walked into the room, expected nothing from these monitor speakers. Steven from PranaFidelity was playing Adagio d'Albinoni from Gary Karr; I was shocked how much energy, and impact I get from these little speakers. The sound was amazingly coherent, controlled, and convincing for a small room. The PranaFidelity Purna amplifier retails $8950 and the speakers retails $3950. I also vote this system as one of the top 10 system at the show, and the #1 for its value.
In the Magnepan room, they were showing its new 3.7 speakers in private sessions. They hid the speakers behind the curtain. Just when everybody was wondering what’s going on; they started to play. What’s different about this demo is that there was a strong presence of deep bottom bass which is usually not found on Maggie’s. I was looking around for the subwoofers, but couldn’t find it. At the end of the presentation, they showed us the “hidden” subwoofers; which were disguised as lamp table.
