When somebody says Apogee, I usually smell trouble. Apogee speakers are not the easiest speakers to drive in the world, and they do demand power. Therefore I always have my admiration for Apogee owners, who is willing to accept the challenge.
However, the Apogee speakers are made beautifully in its appearance and in sound. JW's Apogee Full range Ultimate is the 2 way passive version; with an external Pass Labs XVR-1 cross-over. The midrange dipole driver consists of a two inch wide ribbon. The line source tweeter driver consists of a pair of one half inch ribbons radiating in phase acoustical power in both the forward and rear cylinders. ARC Reference 210 driving the mid/tweeter; while the ARC DS 450 to drive the bass ribbon. (keep in mind that midrange direct drive impedance goes as low as 0.14 ohm!) It is capable of producting impressive imaging, depth, sound stage, and live music ambience. The full range ribbon system reproduces classical music at Concert Hall sound levels but also has the dynamic range for ear splitting hard rock.
