A Tribute to FM Acoustics - “The best for those who require the best”
If you ask me, what’s the world’s most expensive car? I would probably guess it’s a Ferrari. Well, the 2009-2010 world’s most expensive, still in production and available on the market, is a Bugatti Veyron at a price tag of $1.7 million dollars. Ferrari Enzo actually ranks number 4, with a price tag of $670,000. (When did Ferrari become cheap?)
Now if you ask me, what’s the world’s most expensive home audio? Well, aren’t they all expensive already? However, the most expensive and probably the best of the best is FM Acoustics.
FM Acoustics is an ultra high end Swiss audio company. FM Acoustics stands for "For Music and Acoustics". FM Acoustics is owned by Manuel Huber, a brilliant and innovative audio and design engineer whose technical expertise is augmented by his deep and abiding love of music. Founded as an acoustical engineering and consulting firm, whose primary business was to measure the acoustics of music halls and other venues. They made four amplifiers units intended for internal use only. On one occasion, some musician friends borrowed an amplifier, but refused to return it because "it sounds too good." Word spread and numerous requests and unsolicited orders for their amplifier eventually led the company to begin production. They named the first model the FM 800A. The FM 800A found its way into hundreds of concert halls, opera houses, studios and the like.
For 36 years, FM Acoustics’ products "quietly" become a synonym for the absolute best by world renown artists, producers, engineers, studios, concert halls, collectors and audiophiles. Famous as much for their reliability as for their performance. Who are FM Acoustics users? How about Ray Charles, Miles Davis, Rolling Stones, Queen, Sting, U2, Keith Jarrett, Yo Yo Ma, CBS Los Angeles, NHK (Tokyo), Korea Broadcasting, etc.
All FM Acoustics products, except for some metal fabrication, are hand assembled from regorously selected and tested components in their Swiss manufacturing facility. No subassemblies are purchased or farmed out. All assembly and test is conducted in house.
Now, the million dollar question is how much does a FM Acoustics system cost? Well, let's say, you may have to say goodbye to your Ferrari Enzo. :) |
