One of Asia’s leading orchestras, the Taiwan Philharmonic makes its Canada debut in Vancouver—performing Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony and violin concerto in D by the late Taiwanese composer Tyzen Hsiao, whose compositional style earned him the international reputation of “Taiwan’s Rachmaninoff.”
Acclaimed violinist Cho-Liang Lin joins the orchestra for Hsiao’s Violin Concerto, which was premiered by Lin with the San Diego Symphony in 1992. Lü, the music director of the orchestra since 2010, has been praised by many critics as the Master of Nuance for his conducting.
